Design Smart was sub-contracted to develop the mechanicals for what is believed to be the world's first double sided electronic Ticker display, complete with curved sections of different radii. This meant that concave and convex sections had to be designed. Other (Australian) companies had declined to engage on this Perth-based project, due to its degree of difficulty. Again, despite budget related issues and a tight time frame, we achieved an excellent result for the client.
The issue with this project is that the curved sections of the electronic Ticker, both concave and convex, needed to be faceted from individual flat LED panels that were 128mm wide. This made for some tricky sheet metal work when following these concave & convex curves. The use of such flat LED panels was to enable the budgetary constraints to be met, as flexible LED ribbon was at the time far too expensive to use.
